Shot List (Band Scene)

This is the shot list for the filming that will be taking place on Wednesday 30th September. The minimum amount of shots we plan to take is twelve, however as we go through the filming process, more may be added due to any ideas we may have. As there is only 4 of us in the group, I put together a band consisting of myself and 3 other friends (David, Samuel and Jordan), whilst the rest of my group prepare the room, set up and film the scene.

Title:     Red Emperor – Kink In Your Soul

Synopsis:

Music video for ‘Kink In Your Soul’ by Red Emperor.
The video will start off at a friend's house party in which everyone's enjoying themselves and having a good time. At this party there is a boyfriend and a girlfriend who came together as they both know the host. As soon as the girl turns her back on her boyfriend, he starts talking to anther girl and becomes very intimate with her in the corner. The boy doesn't notice that his girlfriend is watching him and takes the girl upstairs to get even more intimate. The girl sees this and becomes fed up and upset so she begins to drink her sorrows out till she passes out on the couch. Someone notices this and escorts out the house where she is tld to go home. But instead of going home she takes the bus and goes to Westminster and travels to the places where her and her boyfriend had their best moments. Whilst she walks through London drunk she has so many flashbacks that she ends up breaking down lying on the bench of the train station. The boy, who found out about his girlfriend getting angry, starts to follow her to London but doesn't catch up to her till he sees her in the train station and tries to offer her a coffee to calm her. She takes the coffee but rejects him.

Key Genre Conventions:

Our moodboard for this video illustrates that the target audience for this video should be young adults with a keen interest in indie rock. It’s sub-genre so it appeals to a lot of the audience who don’t want to follow mainstream trends. The video will be part-performance, part-narrative showing some band scenes whilst showing a story

First Production Meeting

Information About The Artist

The song we chose 'Kink In Your Soul' was from the British band 'Red Emperor' who are from Brighton aged 18-22. They are a 4 piece Indie Rock band and they have an EP which is currently available on their website. The video on their YouTube Channel with the most views is the official music video to their hit song, 'Kink In Your Soul'. The members of the band include:

  • Edward -  www.twitter.com/EdwardBedford
  • Charlie - www.twitter.com/C_Herridge_
  • Mollis - www.twitter.com/iamollis
  • Navraj - www.twitter.com/NavrajManku

They also have a soundcloud page with a following of 117, which is surely bound to increase with the success of their hit song.

Sonny and Cher Lip Sync Exercise with Evaluation

What went well?
  • Throughout the task we were able to implement a number of effective shots to enable the video to appear more attractive. We included dolly shots, close ups and a mid shot in order to help portray the emotion behind each of the singers lyrics.
  • We were able to learn the lyrics relatively quickly (15 minutes) and this made the whole process very fast and smooth with few disruptions. Also just in case we missed a line we taped the lyrics opposite us on the light stand so we could see them without making it obvious we were looking. This was effective as we didn't have to have the pieces of paper in the shot.
  • Another good element of our lip sync exercise was that although we were unfamiliar with the song we were able to interpret the lyrics to understand what shots were of best use to us.
  • The editing was good as we were able to match the lip syncing to the video successfully and even with cuts to the other clips the lip syncing was still accurate.
  • Compared to the previous Elton John Lip Sync we have understood how important a range of angles and shots are to a music video.
What could be improved?
  • Attention to editing was quite poor as we hadn't realised that we had played the whole track in the video, so although the video had stopped the song was playing on a blank screen which is very amateurish but it is something that we will look out for when we produce our video.
  • The quality of each shot type we used was better compared to Elton John however there were still some shot types we didn't use due to lack of time which could have produced a more effective video.
  • At one point there is a fault in the editing as the lip syncing is off slightly on one of the Sonny verses.

When it comes to filming we have chosen 3 different locations, we have decided to do it at Robert Clack, in the drama room, because we felt that this would be the perfect scenery to film the band, when they are playing the drums and the guitar etc. We also feel that it has a dark atmosphere to the room, so this would fit in with the dark story-line that we have in the music video we are going to shoot.
We have also decided to go to Westminster, which is around the London Eye.

We decided to go to the London Eye, because we felt that we were able to get some good shots of the scenery there, and it will also be able to fit in with the story-line of our music video. So at this location we are going to be filming most of our story-line, so this will include the shots where she has a flashback of her and her boyfriend, and also of her falling asleep on the bench and lastly where a guy gives her a coffee. This is a good location because the scenery of the area is beautiful, which will have a positive impact on the turn out of our music video.

The last location we have decided to use is at a friend of ours house, at this location we will be filming the house party. We felt that his house would be the perfect location, because his house has the party atmosphere that we need to be able to make the turnout of the party a great one. Also his house is local, meaning that when it comes to carrying the equipment around, it wont be as hard, and it wont take as much time to get to the location.

Access to location via:
So when we are going Robert Clack, we take the 175 or 5 to Althorne Way, then from there it is about a 3-5 mins walk. When going to Westminster, this does take quite a while. firstly we will take the district line to West ham station, then from West Ham Station we take the district line to Westminster Underground station, so it will take us approximately 42 mins, to get to this location. The last location, which is at our friends house, is very easy to get to, as it is literally in walking distance. It will take use about 5-7 mins to get to this location which is great.

Health and Safety Issues to note:
When it comes to filming at Robert Clack we need to make sure that we are taking into consideration to the other students who are attending the school, so when we are carrying equipment around such as the lights and the camera, we need to make sure that we are careful when walking around the school. Not only for the other students in school but we also don't want to damage the expensive equipment that we are carrying around. We also need to make sure that where we are filming is safe, so this means there will not be any loose wires around, as this can be dangerous.
This also applies, when we are filming in London, we need to make sure that we are taking into consideration of the other people around us,so we have to be careful when we are carrying around the equipment, so hat we don't put anyone in any harm. We also have to make sure that we are filming around any puddles or slippery grounds, because one of us could slip and fall and this could lead to serious injuries,
When filming at our friends house, we need to make sure that there are no loose wires around, where one of us could slip and fall, because this can be dangerous. we also need to be making sure that we take good care of the equipment, because we are going to be filming the scenery of a house party, so this could be packed, which is why we have to take good care of the equipment so no one gets hurt.
Potential Filming Problems :
The main filming problems that may occur is the weather, because when it rains it can be very difficult when it comes to carrying the equipment around. Which is why we have to check the weather before hand, before we go out filming. So this will apply when it comes to filming at Westminster. The problem with filming at Robert Clack, is that at times the halls can become very packed, which can cause problems when it comes to carrying around the equipment, which is why we have to make sure the halls are empty when we are carrying around the equipment. Also another problem could be, when we are ready to film the drama studio could be booked, which will leave use no where to film, so we need to make sure that we have he drama studio booked for when we are about to film.
Also the when filming at the friends house, we need to make sure that they are home for when we are ready to film, we also need to make sure that people are available on the day, so that it can look like a proper party atmosphere, or else it will not look good on our music video if not that many people show up.
Additional Notes:  (map of area/weather forecast etc)

Lyrics

Here are the lyrics to Kink in Your Soul, learn them and sing-a-long when you're watching our music video!

Just in case you can't see the lyrics, here they are:

She was always on her own,
She just always seemed too shy,
And she would hide her heart away, living in the ecstacy, hoping it would make her stronger,
And they would take her dreams away, save them for another day,

And it was not my choice, to let you go,
And I should have have taken more care, should have made sure,
And if I could turn back time, I would have let you know,
Oh how could I have known you had a kink in your soul?,

You've got a kink in your soul, oh oh oh oh…,
Oh how could I have known you had a kink in your soul?,
Oh oh oh oh oh…..,

Oh how could I have known?,
Oh how could I have known?,
Oh how could I have known you had a kink in your soul?,

She used to run from the one she loved,
It seems old habits never die,
And every time she'd run away, she would hide the sun away, she preferred it colder,
She should have been bolder, should have never sold her soul.
